True confession time: I am a SUCKER for American Idol and I’ve secretly wanted to be a contestant for years. There was a time when my BFF and I discussed the AI happenings more than any two humans should:
Audition city train wrecks? Yes, please!
Simon Cowell (come back!!) lambasting a performance as “Cabaret”? You betcha.
Ryan Seacrest trying to high five that blind contestant from Season 8? Let’s watch THAT on rewind, shall we?
While I do dabble in singing, (read: a couple of ensemble performances in high school plays and a particularly spectacular karaoke performance at a Sandals in Antigua last October), it’s safe to say that I’ll never be a contestant on American Idol and it’s not necessarily because I no longer meet the age requirement. Sadly, I will never be part of the AI Concert Tour which I saw at the Allentown Fair. And Atlantic City. Ahem.
Until today, I thought my dreams of competing in a contest where the 12 best of something were chosen by a panel of judges were all but dashed. I thought I’d never be able to stand next to someone hoping and praying that the other sucker was going home. I thought I’d never get the chance to watch some other poor schmuck watch a retrospective of their time on the show set to Daniel Powter’s “Bad Day”.
Enter Blogger Idol 2013.
My friends over at Martinis and Minivans alerted me to this little contest and I have to say, my heart skipped a beat when I heard about having the shot to have my little, itty bitty, 215 Facebook following blog considered. What would I write? What would I wear?? Would I get to meet my dawg Randy?
The Blogger Idol Contest is a 12 week writing contest for bloggers just like me to compete for prizes of blogging software, social media support, blog management, gift certificates from amazon, Dollar Shave Club and Savvy Shopper Central. AND a gift certificate to Baconery. I will win bacon. BA-CON, people. Enough said, no?
Now, this is where my fans come in, all 215 as counted by Facebook….I’m going to need EVERY. FRUIT LOOP. ON. DECK. Since this is an Idol style contest, there will be weekly voting. I will need my Fruit Loop Group to vote me on to the next round. I will need you to read my posts, vote for me, cheer me on, tell Simon he’s full of it and smirk when the others get voted off. If you want to make signs for me to see in the audience, that would be great, too. I, of course, will do my part by writing witty, amazingly hilarious blogs but my winning bacon can’t happen without my dedicated fans.
Did I mention there’d be bacon?
So, in the spirit of bacon and blogging, who’s with me???
I see 14 hands raised. Awesome, we are off to a great start……
